Page 23 - Karaite customs and ceremonies

 

It is not possible to appoint as a Karaite cleric a person who has a mum (מוּם) - physical defect.

It is not possible to marry a person who believes in another religion.

A divorce is permissible in the following cases: 1) Both spouses agree with the divorce, 2) The divorce is for a lawful reason or 3) If a peaceful coexistence is impossible.

If a Karaite takes an oath, he/she must have a headcover on and he/she must point the forefinger upwards, this symbolises the belief in one God. The oath must be uttered clearly and loudly.

If a Karaite takes an oath in the kenasa (synagogue), he/she appears in front of the Sefer Torah and says the words of the oath clearly and loudly, after the declaration of the oath he/she kisses the Sefer Torah.

Each Karaite  must be aware that a 
false oath in court or in the kenasa deserves strict and uncompromising punishment. 

 

 Karaites are not allowed to slaughter cattle with a defect, or cattle that are pregnant or sick. It is also is forbidden to eat meat from defective, pregnant and sick cattle.

The only way cattle and birds are allowed to be slaughtered is by cutting their throats, no other method of slaughter is permitted.
