Why do we come in front of the Hekhal without shoes?
Answer:
The Sefer Torah is in the Hekhal, for this reason the Hekhal is a place of complete holiness for us. The Hazzan or the person who leads the prayers performs worship in front of the Hekhal, for this reason it is necessary to enter this place without shoes.
This regulation is based on the story in the Torah, when the prophet Moses came to the mountain of God, to Horeb and when he saw the burning bush, God commanded him:
Draw not nigh hither; take off thy shoes from thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground. (2M 3:5)
